Time Don’t Wait For No One

My Grandfather, who was a WWII Vet, had this saying, “Time Don’t Wait For No One” .  Although it drove me nuts, I knew what he meant. It was typically announced when I was either putting something off or taking too long to get ready. Still it always made me pause and think that’s one crazy ass statement. As I get older some how it resonates.  The following is a sweet perspective on just that.

“Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. So you kill the hour. You do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. If you sleep it is not because you need to sleep. And when at last it is over, there is no evidence: no weapon, no blood, and no body. The only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating something has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost something and the loss is too empty to share.”
— Mark Z. Danielewski (House of Leaves)

Monkey Love

Okay before you say it, I know orangutans are apes and not monkeys, but ape love doesn’t have the same ring.

Honestly This looks super planned, but they are apes after all, so who knows. As the story goes this is supposed to be a tourist taking a picture at a Zoo of sorts.

I must say they do all look quite happy.

Do You Ever Coordinate Your Clothes?

Posted on December 27, 2008. Filed under: funny, humor, life, parenting, psychology, writing | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

I don’t mean for your self that is a  no brainier, but I mean for your entire family?  I just went t0 dinner with a bunch, seven, friends and about half admitted to on a regular basis color and or style coordination.  I was in shock and awe. Yeah I know shock and awe, but I was, so what s the word bird……Like what the F…  Okay for pictures with a photographer, but just to go to dinner? Honestly I have never considered it.  One very good friend admitted to getting mad if her husband refuses to coordinate.

They all said assuredly, I do not, could not, would not, and should not….Ha ha “You are just lucky if you and your family make it to the car for the outing”.  I so had to laugh cause well it is true.   But then I got kinda pissed since that seems true but highly insulting. They collectively decided I am just too free spirited to do that.

Yup that me just way too free spirited, so I’m the crazy one.

Do you coordinate?

Want to Change the World? Be Happy It’s Contagious

Thanks to Carfs Photostream

There was a recent study published that said among other things that happiness is contagious in social groups.

Iron sharpens iron, right?  The study points out that sadness also spread but at a slightly lower rate.

According to a cnn report

“New research shows that in a social network, happiness spreads among people up to three degrees removed from one another. That means when you feel happy, a friend of a friend of a friend has a slightly higher likelihood of feeling happy too.”

Wow that has powerful implications! If you are a good friend and you want to help them. it’s simple be happy.

According to James Fowler, co-author of the study and professor of political science at the University of California in San Diego, “We get this chain reaction in happiness that I think increases the stakes in terms of us trying to shape our own moods to make sure we have a positive impact on people we know and love,” he said.
